Cardiac Rehabilitation

Each year, about 1.2 million Americans suffer a heart attack. You're in good company. After a heart trauma, we'll help you return to a normal - and healthier - lifestyle.

What Is Heart Trauma?

Heart trauma includes more than heart attacks. Blocked arteries, cardiac shock, sudden irregular heartbeat and injuries are some of the other reasons people come to Rogue Valley Medical Center for expert heart care. In 2007, our surgeons performed 438 bypass surgeries and inserted 724 stents. No matter what brought you here, our Cardiac Rehabilitation program is designed to help each heart patient return home as quickly and safely as possible.

The Rogue Valley Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation program is a personalized exercise and education plan that lowers your risk of recurring heart trouble and helps you return to an active lifestyle. Your recovery team includes your doctor, nurses, exercise specialists, dietitians, social workers and pharmacists, working together with you and your family to get you back on track fast.

Lower Your Risks

Our top priority: protecting you from another heart attack or surgery and helping you return to the activities you enjoy. We'll show you how to lower your risks by eating smart, keeping fit and, if necessary, losing weight the right way. It's not just about getting healthy - it's about staying healthy.

Testimonials

Exercise is an important part of my lifestyle, so when I started having trouble breathing and sweating heavily while on a regular walk, I was worried. My doctor sent me to Rogue Valley Medical Center. From my first tests through a quintuple bypass, they were caring, knowledgeable, and professional. After my surgery, RVMC Cardiac Rehab was a valuable partner in helping me maintain an active lifestyle. My wife and I received the best possible education, instruction, and encouragement. Today I am back to lifting weights and exercising without any trouble.

Phase III: Keeping You Strong

When your initial follow-up visits are done, we offer ongoing therapy and support for as long as you choose. Our team will show you how to monitor your own health and progress until you're comfortable with your new - and improved - lifestyle.

Walking for Heart Health

Walking is the simplest and safest weight-bearing aerobic exercise.

  • Consistency is the most important factor in developing a healthy walking program.
  • On average, every minute of walking can extend your life by up to two minutes.
  • Every cigarette smoked cuts your life expectancy by five minutes.
  • Walking an extra 20 minutes each day will burn off 7 pounds of body fat per year.
  • To burn off one plain M&M candy, you need to walk the full length of a football field.
  • The American College of Sports Medicine recommends doing both aerobic and resistance-type workouts to maintain strength and stamina.
