Visitor Information

You can help provide a peaceful, comfortable and safe environment for our patients and their guests by following these visitor guidelines.

  • Visiting hours are decided by each new mom. Please respect her wishes. If there is a sign on the door that says, "Family and friends, please check at nurses station before entering," check with a staff member before entering the room.
  • The Family Birth Center is a secure area. Check in with the Security staff and sign the guest book when you arrive.
  • Please keep noise levels low.
  • The areas surrounding the fish tank are designated for family members or guests who are asked to step out of the birthing suite during an exam or other procedure. If you are asked to step out, please do so. Groups are asked to move to the entrance lobby to give families privacy, quiet and respect.
  • If you have more guests than seatsin the birthing suite, please visit in small groups. The lobby area is available for larger family celebrations.
  • Mothers having a cesarean section need recovery time in their room. For her safety, please allow at least one hour after the surgery before visiting.
  • Please do not bring candles. Because they are a fire hazard, they are not allowed in the birthing suites.

For Your Convenience

  • There are phones for local and card calls in each wing of the Family Birth Center. A courtesy phone is located in the hallway near the entrance lobby.
  • Children, with adult supervision, are welcome to use the playground on the corner of East Barnett and Murphy except when children in the Early Learning Program are there. They are usually in the play area Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m.
  • Coffee, tea, water and a microwave oven are centrally located in the Family Birth Center for family and friends. You may also go to the cafeteria to purchase a meal ticket for $5. This ticket allows you to order from the room service menu and have a meal with the patient in her room.
  • Other dining options include the hospital cafeteria (Rambling Rogue) on the basement level, and vending machines near the lobby in the Family Birth Center.
  • Family and friends from out of town may call the hospital's toll-free number, (800) 944-7073, and ask for the patient by name.

For Overnight Visitors

  • A sleeping surface is available for one family member to stay in the room with the patient. Many families prefer to bring their own sleeping bag and pillows for comfort. If additional people need to stay overnight, the staff can provide a list of lodging options near the hospital.
