Spectrum of Services

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic at Rogue Valley Medical Center offers a wide spectrum of advanced services for expectant mothers.

Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist

Bryan Sohl, MD, is an expert in ultrasound for unborn babies. He works closely with Oregon Health Sciences and other specialists in diagnosing and treating newborn heart disease and repairing birth defects. Dr. Sohl provides expert consultation to pregnant women and their doctors who are dealing with complications related to hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes and lupus.

Dr. Sohl also consults with expectant parents facing genetic concerns, including pregnancies with increased risk for Down syndrome or family histories of inherited disease.

For women outside of the Medford area, Dr. Sohl travels monthly to Klamath Falls to provide expert care to pregnant women in that region, including advanced ultrasound.

High-risk Pregnancy

We provide specialized care to women of high risk, including older women and women with a history of miscarriage, complicated pregnancies or genetic issues. Our team can connect you with other specialists when needed, such as neonatologists, pediatric cardiologists and pediatric surgeons, lactation consultants and pediatricians. We also help your obstetrician or primary care doctor treat complications such as high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid disease, heart disease and thrombophilias.

3-D and 4-D Ultrasound

Ultrasounds are no longer limited to the grainy, black and white pictures. Today, we offer the latest technology in 3-D and 4-D ultrasound, enabling you to see detailed, real-life pictures and video of your baby in the womb.

The Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic at Rogue Valley Medical Center is the only practice in the region to receive accreditation in obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. We are committed to using ultrasound equipment safely and effectively.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes, or diabetes developed during pregnancy, occurs in as many as eight of every 100 pregnant women. We provide routine testing for gestational diabetes as well as treatment and monitoring for women diagnosed with the condition. When needed, Rogue Valley Medical Center's certified diabetes educators and nutritionists work with you to keep blood sugar levels under control.

Genetic Testing and Counseling

Each woman has the option to explore specific testing for fetal abnormalities. For those women and women with a personal or family history of birth defects, we offer a knowledgeable and compassionate nurse practitioner with special training in genetics. She helps you sort out your worries, explore options for genetic testing including maternal serum screening and amniocentesis, and offers unbiased support.

Care for All Pregnancies

Whether you are enjoying a relatively easy pregnancy or have special concerns or risks, our prenatal screenings offer the most advanced care available. At the Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic, we welcome both high-risk and low-risk women for routine ultrasounds, first trimester screenings and expert care for a variety of pregnancy-related health concerns.
