What to Bring to the Hospital

Pack your bags for baby time!  Here is a list of essentials:

  • blanket or wrap for your new baby, plus an outfit for the baby to wear home
  • car seat-be sure to have the local fire department check it out in advance
    Tip: put a baby-sized stuffed toy or doll in the seat to make sure your baby will fit correctly
  • personal care items (shampoo, toothbrush, hairbrush)
  • sleeping bag and pillow for your support person.

To make your stay more comfortable, you may also want to bring:

  • snack foods
  • music tapes or CDs
  • videotapes or DVDs
  • camera/video camera
  • reading materials
  • your own pillow in a colored pillowcase
  • robe and slippers
  • long-distance calling cards
  • swim trunks or swimsuit for support person
  • for nursing mothers, a nursing bra and breast pads
  • baby book
