Spine Surgery Specialists
Three Rivers Community Hospital offers state-of-the-art
minimally invasive surgery options for the back and spine.
Lateral Access Spine
Surgery
In this advanced procedure, surgeons use special nerve
monitoring technology to access the spine through the side of the body rather
than through the front or back.
This enables surgeons to avoid cutting into the sensitive back muscles,
bones, ligaments or nerves and gives them greater access to the spine and disc
space.
Three Rivers Community Hospital offers two innovative
lateral access spine procedures: extreme lateral interbody fusion (XLIF®) and
direct lateral interbody fusion (DLIF®).
These surgeries are used to repair discs or facet joints and restore
stability to the spine. XLIF and
DLIF are minimally invasive procedures involving advanced technology and small
incisions near the side of the waist.
Bleeding, scarring, pain and recovery time are decreased compared to
conventional back surgery. XLIF
and DLIF can be performed in as little as one hour, also reducing the amount of
time a patient is under anesthesia.
