Asante Named One of the Nation's Top 15 Health Systems by Truven Health Analytics

Intensive Care at AsanteAsante is one of the nation’s top 15 health systems, according to Truven Health Analytics. Researchers from the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals® program analyzed the clinical quality and efficiency of more than 300 health systems to identify the top 15, which were announced on April 15. Formerly known as Thomson Reuters, Truven Health Analytics is a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare.

“Asante is honored to be named among the top healthcare organizations in the country,” said Roy Vinyard, Asante’s president and CEO. “We truly believe we are measured one patient at a time, but receiving national recognition like this shows we are doing the right things on a daily basis for the people of Southern Oregon and Northern California.”

Asante – the region’s largest healthcare provider – includes Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass, Asante Physician Partners offices and additional healthcare partnerships throughout the region.

The study relied on publicly available data provided by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Top 15 systems achieved superior clinical outcomes based on a composite score of eight measures of quality, patient perception of care, and efficiency. The winners of the 15 Top Health Systems award outperformed their peers in a number of ways. Specifically, the winning hospitals:

  • Saved more lives and caused fewer patient complications
  • Followed industry-recommended standards of care more closely
  • Made fewer patient safety errors
  • Released patients half a day sooner
  • Scored better on overall patient satisfaction surveys

“At Asante we believe that quality and efficiency come from improving patient outcomes, enhancing our patient’s experiences and reducing the costs of care,” said Robert Thompson, MD, Chief Quality and Medical Officer at Asante. “To be included in the Top 15 Health Systems in the country is reflective of the passion our employees and medical staff have for providing exceptional care.”

Researchers from the Truven Health Analytics 100 Top Hospitals program have analyzed and reported on the performance of individual hospitals since 1993.  Organizations do not apply or pay for this honor, or pay to promote their awards. The Top 15 Health Systems were announced in the April 15 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine.

“As health systems move further into health care reform, consistency of hospital and physician outcomes in every community served is the holy grail,” said Jean Chenoweth, senior vice president for performance improvement and 100 Top Hospitals® program at Truven Health Analytics.  “Health system leaders’ effectiveness will be measured not solely on the performance of the whole system compared to other systems, but also on the leader’s ability to align the performance of the provider segments of the health system to achieve consistency. This new study begins to measure the aspect of performance.”
