Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers serve in a variety of roles. Here are some examples of volunteer jobs at our hospitals:

Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center

Our goal in all service areas is to ensure that we always provide excellent customer service - every day, every time, for every patient. Demonstrating excellent customer service skills communicated in a respectful manner is expected. Often our customers are also family members, visitors, and staff. Wherever you decide to volunteer, please remember that we are here to provide quality healthcare services in a compassionate manner valued by the communities we serve. Please note that many of these services have 3-4 hour shifts.


Blood Pressure (BP)works with a partner or alone

This service offers free blood pressure readings to the public. Volunteers are trained in the proper procedure for taking blood pressure and often greet and help people find waiting areas and locations.
Customer Contact: Moderate to High
Physical Requirements: Mostly sitting position
Hours: Mon – Fri 9:00 AM to Noon and Noon to 3:00 PM

Cardiovascular Institute (CVI)works with a partner at times
Volunteers at the front lobby of the CVI building at 520 Medical Center Dr (to the west of the Asante Rogue Regional North Lobby entrance) greet and direct patients and visitors to appropriate floors and office locations and provide wheelchairs for patient use.
Customer Contact: Moderate to High
Physical Requirements: Mostly sitting, some walking
Hours: Tue & Thu, 8:00 AM to Noon, and Wed 9:00 AM to Noon

Clericalworks alone
Part of the Support Services team, volunteers assist various Asante Rogue Regional departments with clerical type duties. Computer work may be required in some areas.
Customer Contact: Low
Physical Requirements: Mostly sitting
Hours: Variable depending on department’s needs

Critical, Intensive & Intermediate Care Units (CCU/ICU/IMCU)works alone
Provide appropriate information and assistance to visitors waiting for CCU, ICU and IMCU patients.
Customer Contact: Low to High
Physical Requirements: Some walking, but mostly sitting
Hours: Mon – Fri, 7:00 AM to Noon and Noon to 4:00 PM

NICU Cuddlerworks alone – assignment in this area comes from our general volunteer base.
Offer supplemental support to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Special Care Nursery (SCN) by doing clerical tasks, holding, rocking, and providing human contact for babies, mainly when a parent is unavailable. Due to the intensity of the assignment and resources involved, it is expected that volunteers will remain in the program for no less than 12 months; assignment expectations are for a minimum of two hours per week (8 hours per month).

Hours: 24/7

Gift Shopworks with a partner
Located near the North Lobby, the Gift Shop volunteer is primarily focused on providing excellent customer service to our retail customers. You may be helping customers find the “perfect gift” for a patient or staff member to taking a phone order for flowers. Training for operating the point of sale system (cash register), will be provided. Prior retail experience preferred but not required.

Hours: Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM to Noon and Noon to 4:00 PM

Guide Servicesworks with a partner
Greeting patients and visitors in the North Lobby. You are an integral member of that “first contact” with our community. You may be helping the North Lobby volunteers with inquiries and helping your peers at the information desk escort visitors to their destination within Asante Rogue Regional. You will be transporting discharged patients from his/her room to an entrance/exit, transporting recently admitted patients to a unit, escorting patients and visitors to his/her destination, and delivering flowers or mail to a patient or staff member.
Customer Contact: Moderate to High
Physical Requirements: Some sitting, but mostly walking throughout ARRMC
Hours: Mon – Fri, 9:00 AM to Noon and Noon to 4:00 PM

Information Desksworks with a partner
We have two main entrances to Asante Rogue Regional – one is the North Lobby (entrance on Siskiyou Blvd) and the other is the South Lobby (entrance on Barnett Rd). These entrances have the highest volume of customer contact. Volunteers will be providing clear and accurate answers to questions from patients and visitors on where to register, how to find a patient, where a unit is located and other general inquiries.

Hours: Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM to Noon and Noon to 4:00 PM

Magazinesworks alone
Part of the Support Services team, these volunteers organize, disperse and update current magazines throughout the waiting areas within Asante Rogue Regional.
Customer Contact: Moderate
Physical Requirements: Primarily walking throughout Asante Rogue Regional waiting areas.
Hours: Mon – Fri, 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and variable

Patient Partnership Council - works with a team
Actively promote and create new and unique opportunities for communication and collaboration that emphasize responsible and personalized patient-centered care. Collaboration with hospital staff from various disciplines is required. Must have previously utilized services at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center as a patient or family member within the last 12 months. Need to be available to attend quarterly meetings for two years. Share and actively participate in moving the agenda of the council.

Physical Requirements: Mostly sitting
Hours: 5:30-7:30 PM on third Tuesday of the month once per quarter

Pet Therapyworks alone w/dog
Provide comfort by way of certified therapy dog. Rounding on patients and families in Behavioral Health, Inpatient Rehabilitation and Pediatric units, in addition to waiting rooms.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Saturday-Sunday 10:00-2:00 pm

Radiation Oncologyworks alone
Assist Dubs Cancer staff in a variety of clerical office tasks to include electronically scanning charts, data entry, etc. Escort patients to other areas of Asante Rogue Regional as needed.

Physical Requirements: Mostly sitting with some walking
Hours: Mon – Fri, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, flexible

Specialty Sewingworks in a group, some work at home alone
Help make a variety of items for Asante Rogue Regional patients. Items range from neck pillows to cold packs for the Women’s Imaging Center breast biopsy patients. Sewing machine skills not required.

Physical Requirements: Primarily sitting with some walking
Hours: Mondays, 8:30 AM to Noon, or Thursdays 1:00 to 4:00 PM

Spiritual Careworks alone
Provide comfort and spiritual assessment for patients, families and staff during vulnerable situations to include rounding on patients and families in patient and waiting rooms. Specialized spiritual care training provided.

Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Saturday-Sunday 10:00-2:00 pm

Surgical Services Unit (SSU)works with a partner at front desk or alone at “T” desk
Provide appropriate assistance to incoming patients and information to those waiting. Excellent organizational and communication skills are needed. Duties include minimal use of computer, answering phones, and wheelchair transport for patients being discharged. Another area within this service is called the “T” desk (or telephone desk) which is located near the surgery recovery room to enable monitoring of the patient’s recovery progress through the nursing staff. Volunteers track and monitor the flow of surgery patients and keeps team members, including surgeons and surgery staff, informed.

Physical Requirements: Some sitting with moderate walking for SSU desk. Mostly sitting with some walking required at the T-Desk.
Hours: Mon – Fri, 6:45 AM to 11:45 AM and 11:45 AM to 4:00 PM

Wayfinding- works alone
Seeks out patients, families and visitors unable to find destinations. Offers to walk patients, families and visitors to destinations in the event the patient or family needs assistance. Provide clear and accurate directions to help people find their way when walking to them to their destination isn’t appropriate.

Physical Requirements: Walking for long periods of time.
Hours: Mon – Fri, 3 hours shifts 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Women’s Imaging Center (WIC) – works alone
Help direct or escort patients to and from various areas at the Women’s Imaging Center which is located on the far north end of the Asante Rogue Regional campus, off of Murphy Rd.
Customer Contact: Moderate
Physical Requirements: Some sitting but mostly walking
Hours: Mon - Thu 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, Fri 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and the second Saturday of the month from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (Flexible)
