VITAL SIGNS
[NEWS, VIEWS & HAPPENINGS IN AND AROUND THE WORLD OF ASANTE]

Genesis Reaches Out
Genesis Recovery Center is extending beyond Jackson County to help its clients succeed. Genesis now has satellite sites in Grants Pass, White City and Brookings. Genesis is a drug and alcohol treatment center and a member of Asante Health System.

The Genesis sites in Grants Pass and Brookings offer a full range of outpatient services such as counseling, referrals, resource information and assessment. White City's site offers a driving under the influence (DUI) offender program in the evenings.

The satellite sites were established to offer Genesis clients convenient access to its services where they live and work. In addition, the sites offer DUI programs near the homes of clients who have lost their driver's licenses, and resources for continued care following discharge from the residential program. More than half of the clients who are discharged from Genesis live outside of Jackson County.

The satellite sites are located in Grants Pass at 124 N.W. Midland; Brookings at 624 Railroad Ave.; and White City at 7591 Crater Lake Hwy., Suite B. Future plans include a satellite site in Yreka, California. For more information please call (541) 608-4000 or 1-800-872-0983.

Sleep Disorders Center Expands
Rogue Valley Medical Center has responded to a high demand for sleep physiology tests with an enlarged Sleep Disorders Center. Two new recording rooms have been added, doubling the center's capacity. The rooms are used to administer polysomographic studies that determine if a patient's sleeping problem is physiological.

More than 40 people a month are tested to help diagnose a variety of sleep disorders, the most common of which is sleep apnea. Other disorders detected include narcolepsy and periodic limb movement. RVMC's Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Sleep Disorders Association.

Three Rivers Community Hospital & Health Center Dimmick campus also operates a Sleep Lab, performing the same tests as at RVMC, Wednesday through Sunday evenings. For more information about sleep disorder testing, please call RVMC at (541) 608-4320, or the Dimmick campus at (541) 476-6831.

Chest Pain Center Opens at RVMC
A twinge in the arm. A stab of pain in the chest. A suffocating feeling.

Is it a heart attack, or harmless symptoms that will pass? The truth is heart attack is still the number one killer of adults in America, and you don't have time to wait. Rogue Valley Medical Center's new Chest Pain Center, located in RVMC's Emergency Department, quickly diagnoses and treats potential heart attack victims.

Backed by the region's only comprehensive Heart Center, the Chest Pain Center is the first step in caring for patients who are experiencing the warning signs of a heart attack: a tightening, pressure or aching in the center of the chest or down the arms; severe heartburn or fullness; burning, aching or cramping in the neck area, shoulders, back or arms; numbness or tingling in the arms; discomfort in the neck or upper back; nausea and/or vomiting; and weakness, dizziness, sweating, shortness of breath, and a cold, clammy feeling.

The good news is if heart attack symptoms are recognized and acted upon immediately, new treatments are available to save lives and limit damage to the heart muscle. The Chest Pain Center uses state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and the most advanced treatments. If there's any question that your symptoms might be a heart attack, be safe: Call 9-1-1 immediately and get to the closest emergency center.
