Accountability to Our Patients

How We Measure Up: The Balanced Scorecard

Being accountable to our patients and community is essential to earning your trust and building a reputation for excellence. Accountability means making the right clinical and managerial decisions, managing resources efficiently, and measuring our performance against state and national benchmarks. These goals are achieved with the help of our Balanced Scorecard.

Asante Employee Influenza Vaccination Rate
As a healthcare provider and as the largest employer in Southern Oregon, we know that higher vaccination rates of our employees have a direct, positive impact on the health of our community. A higher score is better.

Top Box Score Overall Inpatient Rating of Care

This is the percentage of patients who rate our overall care as “very good.” A higher score is better.

Process of Care and Patient Experience

A “process of care” measure shows how often hospitals give recommended treatments known to get the best results for patients with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures. Information about these treatments is taken from the patients’ records and converted into a score. That score is then combined with a rating of the patients’ overall satisfaction with their experience in the hospital. A higher score is better.

Healthcare-Acquired Conditions

This refers to conditions acquired while under hospital care and is measured per 1,000 discharges.

30-Day Readmission for AMI, Heart Failure, and Pneumonia

“Readmission” is when patients who have had a recent hospital stay return to the hospital. The information shows how often patients are readmitted within 30 days of discharge from a previous hospital stay for acute myocardial infarction (AMI), commonly known as a heart attack; heart failure; or pneumonia. A score of less than 1 indicates that actual readmissions were fewer than predicted.
