Rogue Valley Medical Center Rebuild

(completed, 2005)

Emergency Department

The new Emergency Department  features 27 treatment rooms, with centralized nurses’ stations that allow staff to monitor each patient more efficiently.

The new floor plan is designed to give privacy to patients and provide space for family members and friends to comfort them.

Each room has an identical layout, with supplies, equipment, and enough room to accommodate portable imaging equipment.

The completion of this new Emergency Department was celebrated in February of 2005 - with a total expansion of 67,500 sq. ft. in order to accommodate the 24% increase in volume over the previous three years.

Four-Story Parking Garage

The new parking garage, completed in the fall of 2003, was  a 210,225 sq. ft. expansion. The new hospital construction eliminated much of the previous parking, so this new parking garage was an essential first step.

Donors and employees held a daylong celebration at the completion of our first project, and are now enjoying easy access to covered parking.

Inpatient Bed Tower

Providing private, efficient, family centered care

The July 2005 celebration of the opening of the inpatient bed tower  was an event to remember!  An estimated 3,500 employees and community members took self-guided tours and sampled food from the new cafeteria, with 100 volunteers assisting that day.

The 98,000 sq. ft. expansion, immediately provided expanded bed capacity - 112 new rooms (40 net new patient rooms), almost 100% of them private, and greatly enhanced care for our patients and their families.

These patient-centered rooms include an in-room sleeping area for family members to stay overnight with their loved ones. There are also quiet family counseling spaces on each floor.

The doors to the new tower opened on August 22, 2005. A 6th floor has also been shelled in, and will be completed as an Inpatient Rehabilitation Center by the end of 2007.

Integrated Diagnostic Center

The new, integrated diagnostic center is now occupying the former Emergency Department area. This renovation totaled 32,200 sq. ft.

Moving the Imaging Department was the largest and most complex department move of the entire RVMC Rebuild Project, due to the need to phase the relocation of four imaging areas into one comprehensive space.

Along with the new space, a new era of high-resolution imaging has arrived. Two innovative technologies—digital radiography and computed radiography—are now added to the arsenal of high-tech equipment and powerful software available to area physicians.

Beyond the enhanced image quality, patient care also benefits from the speed and flexibility that digital technology offers. New technologies allow for earlier detection of disease, resulting in quicker recovery and shorter hospital stays - patients, families, and the whole region all benefit from this improved technology.

Expansion and enhancement of Surgical Services

The expansion (27,500 sq. ft.) and enhancement/renovation (15,000 sq. ft.) of surgical and related services was the component with the most significant changes. It took several phases to complete, with the final phase occurring in November of 2005.

Enhancement included a new Endovascular Suite that offers outstanding imaging capabilities and support to the physician and staff if it becomes necessary to convert quickly from a catheter-based approach to an open surgical procedure.

The new Endovascular Suite gives surgeons the tools they need for these life saving procedures:

  • Transluminal balloon angioplasty
  • DSA (Digital Subtraction Angiography)
  • Transluminal stent insertion
  • Peripheral arterial atherectomy
  • Endoluminal graft insertion

RVMC has already been named one of the “Top 100 cardiac hospitals” by Solucient for the 5th time. This coupled with our expanded surgical capabilities and advanced surgical technology will make RVMC one of the most sophisticated, high quality surgical care centers in Oregon, ensuring that residents of our region can get top quality care right here.
