Asante PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency

Program Goals

Based on the goals and objectives set forth by ASHP, Asante’s PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency programs build on the doctor of pharmacy education and outcomes to develop a skilled pharmacist practitioner who is prepared to provide medication therapy management as a hospital clinical pharmacist accountable for the care of patients with complex conditions in a community hospital or regional referral center. Graduates will be prepared to be leaders in health system practice, at departmental, organizational, regional, and national levels. They will be equipped to provide education to other health care professionals through presentations and writings, and to their patients and community. Graduates will also be prepared to pursue PGY2 training in the area of their choice, or to pursue a clinical faculty position.

The resident participates in a broad range of experiential training segments. Training opportunities include the following:

• Internal Medicine • Critical Care • ACLS Certification • Diabetes Education • Infectious Disease • Oncology (RRMC) • Practice Management • Teaching Certificate • Rural Hospital Emphasis (TRMC) • Cardiology • Ambulatory Infusion • P&T Committee • Informatics • Medication Safety • Transitions of Care

Resident Responsibilities

The resident is involved in all aspects of patient care throughout the health system. Some of the resident responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide direct patient care to diverse populations
  • Assess, monitor and deliver pharmacotherapy
  • Develop, implement and evaluate a research protocol
  • Participate in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities
  • Provide ACPE accredited continuing education to pharmacy professionals
  • Provide service to the department, organization and community
  • Fulfill clinical/staff pharmacist responsibilities
  • Attend national, state, and regional pharmacy meetings
  • Present a poster at a national or state meeting
  • Present at Western States Conference for Residents, Fellows, and Preceptors
  • Serve as authors for the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center Pharmacy Bulletin
