Asante Three Rivers Auxiliary Donates $92,000

Funds Go to Much Needed Patient Lifts

ATRMC Auxiliary donates $92,000 for patient lifts

Asante Foundation Board Members Kurt Heater and Hyla Lipson accept a check for $92,000 from Dee Taylor on behalf of the Asante Three Rivers Medical Center Auxiliary.

The Asante Three Rivers Medical Center Auxiliary presented the hospital with a check for $92,000 on Monday, March 10 for the purchase of eight Liko Lifts, which are ceiling-mounted units used to lift and transfer patients up to 1000 pounds

"The Auxiliary has given a very generous donation that will further our efforts for both patient and staff safety," said Adam Dockery, manager of environmental services and the patient transport team at Asante Three Rivers.

Patient falls are one of the most common sources of patient injury in hospitals, with the falls usually happening during transfers from the bed to a wheelchair or gurney. In addition, the nursing profession has the highest incidence of back injury in the country. This is not surprising when you consider the stance of a nurse lifting a patient onto a bed. Nationally, in there has been a significant increase in recent years in the number of patients who weigh over 300 pounds. Patients that have been transported on the system report a great sense of security and comfort.

The Liko Lifts are permanently installed in rooms. The patient is moved onto a sling and can then be lifted onto or off of the bed to either side and into a wheel chair or gurney. Units with a single winch can lift patients weighing up 500 pounds. Some units have two winches and can lift twice that amount.

The eight new lifts will complement five other units the auxiliary purchased several years ago.

"The Asante Threes Rivers Auxiliary is an excellent partner in every way," said David Kinyon, VP of operations, Asante Three Rivers Medical Center. "We are very fortunate to have such an energetic and engaged group of individuals working with us in our pursuit of medical excellence, outstanding customer service, and a great place to work."

Each year the Auxiliary sponsors, organizes and promotes scrub, jewelry, and bake sales, along with various other events to raise money including the Christmas Home Tour. The proceeds are used for scholarships toward our Youth Volunteer High School students and equipment for the hospital.

"On behalf of Asante Three Rivers, we thank the Auxiliary team for their hard work, dedication and partnership," Kinyon and Dockery said.

The auxiliary raised funds for the donation through several means, with the most significant amount coming from the Gift Shop at the hospital—which the auxiliary operates--and other funds were raised from various activities such as scrubs, jewelry, and bake sales, and the annual Christmas Home Tour.
