Kids are the Big Winners from Kohl’s Donation to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center
Kohl’s Kids Safety Zone Program at Asante to receive nearly $25,000
MEDFORD, Ore.—November 3, 2014— Kohl’s Department Stores, through the Kohl’s Cares® cause merchandise program, will donate $24,710 to the Asante Foundation for community education programs that advocate safety for kids.
The funds help to support Kohl’s Kids Safety Zone, an important safety program to prevent child head injuries through helmet safety education and awareness. “A helmet won’t prevent an accident from happening,” says Dr. Joshua Cott, emergency room physician at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. “However, a helmet will reduce the severity
of a brain injury, which is crucial for the recovery of young children and adolescents.”
Since 2007, Kohl’s has donated more than $150,000 to support Asante in its sponsorships of healthy living programs for children and families in the Rogue Valley. “We are grateful to community organizations like Kohl’s, which through their efforts allow us enhance the care we are able to provide to children and families throughout our region,” says Susan Mendenhall, manager of Children’s Miracle Network hospitals at Asante Foundation.
These efforts have included Kohl’s Kids Safety Zone; Kids’ Zone, an after-school exercise program for kids; and Kohl’s Be a Fit Kid, a school-based, non-competitive, individualized exercise and nutrition education program for elementary-age children from the first through fifth grades.
Kohl's commitment to Asante is made possible through the Kohl's Cares® cause merchandise program. Kohl's has raised more than $257 million dollars through this merchandise program.
In addition to the merchandise program, Kohl's Cares® features the Kohl's Cares® Scholarship Program, which last year recognized more than 2,300 young volunteers with more than $400,000 in scholarships and prizes. Through Kohl’s Associates in Action volunteer program, more than 834,000 Associates have donated more than 2.7 million hours of their time since 2001, and Kohl’s has donated more than $79 million to youth-focused nonprofit organizations.
