Designed to support our new graduate nurses, Asante provides a robust nursing orientation that will transition you from a novice-skilled nurse to an advanced-skilled nurse. Our nursing residency program offers new grads a consistent series of blended education through classes and precepted hours with an experienced RN.

The Asante residency program provides a comprehensive infrastructure to support the integration of the Asante mission, vision, and values together with the practice of nursing. Cohort FAQ

Program orientation details and length

The length of our new grad residency extends up to 12-months and are dependent upon the specialty and your individual needs. Each of our residencies offer a unique experience: orientation to the organization, in-depth clinical orientation into department-specific content, competency-based assessment, professional development, enhanced communication, exercising critical thinking and evidence-based practices, and increasing and advancing your nursing skill.

Your first few months will consist of a hybrid orientation, consisting of blended education practices such as online learning, lectures, hands on/simulated learning and clinical partnership with a designated nursing preceptor. Our skilled and experienced nursing preceptors will provide you support, guidance and mentorship as you begin to exercise your nursing skills.

Our dynamic environment allows you to prepare for a successful transition into nursing with confidence and excellence in everything you do!

Who can apply?

The program may be right for you if you:

  • Are an RN who has graduated from a nursing program less than 12-months ago.
  • Have not worked in an acute care setting.

Asante makes every effort to ensure our nurses receive a comprehensive orientation. While you may not fit into the criteria above, our nursing educators may design an individualized orientation that offers components of our nursing new grad program to support your success at Asante.

Apply to our cohort today if, by our program’s start date, you intend to have the following:

  • Degree in Nursing (Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s).
  • Registered nurse license from the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Nursing new grad departments

Asante offers a wide range of specialties for our new grads to learn and engage in. While Asante hires new grads in various areas at all 3 of our locations, some of our units may require an integrated practicum (IP) or previous non-nursing experience.

Check out the departments that often hire new grads:

  • Medical and surgical departments including Cardiac, General Medicine, Medical Oncology, Ortho-Neuro and Post-Surgical.
  • Nursing Resource Team including floating between our critical care service lines and our medical-surgical service lines.
  • Surgical Services including Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Short Stay Unit (SSU).
  • Cancer Services including Infusion Therapy.
  • Behavioral Health.
  • These units often require previous experience or an IP:
    • Women’s and Children’s departments including Family Birth Center, Pediatrics, Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU), Labor and Delivery and Maternal Child.
    • Critical Care departments including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Intermediate Medical Care Unit (IMCU) and Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
    • Emergency Department (Requires previous experience or IP).

New Grad FAQ

What happens after I apply?

Once you submit your application, we will confirm you qualify for the program. If you do not qualify, a member of our recruiting team will contact you. If you meet the program qualifications, you can expect an email within one week, that will explain the next steps and guide you through our next steps in our screening process. These steps include:

  • Professional reference check.
  • 1-way HireVue video interview.
  • Survey asking you to select and rate up to 5 departments, including location, of interest.

Once you complete the above screening steps, we will forward your application to your departments of interest for further consideration. Soon after, selections for in-person/live video interviews will be determined.

While you’re able to select up to five departments of interest, you will only be able to interview with one department at a time. Our team will schedule interviews according to the department’s invitations to interview and how you have rated the departments.

Interview Tips

Once you have interviewed, a member of our recruiting team will connect with you within one week.

What shift will I work?

Our available shifts are dependent on the current needs of the unit. Typically, most of our new grads work nights, variable or changing shifts. At the time of offer, our recruiter will provide you with details of the shift being offered.

Out of state and international applicants

We invite you to apply to our program if you live outside of Oregon! Similar to our in-state applicants, you must be licensed through the OSBN prior to your start date with us. If you’re an international student, you’re eligible for the program if you’re legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

If you are transferring your RN license to Oregon, you may be able to apply for an emergency authorization, allowing you to practice quickly in Oregon. Oregon State Board of Nursing is accepting applications to authorize an emergency 30-day license to work as an RN in Oregon.
