As a family physician, Dr. Charles has a passion to spend time with his patients, to understand their medical problems and to provide recommendations to improve their health or to keep them healthy. “My goal is to meet people’s medical needs when they come to the office.

When Dr. Marcelin Charles was in elementary school, he would sketch the human body. That was likely the start of his medical interest. “I don’t know how it got into my heart,” he said. “I cannot remember a time in my life that I didn’t want to be a doctor.”

An avid reader and learner, Dr. Charles, who was born and raised in Haiti until he was 14 years old, was eager to learn. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, and at the age of 24 he received his medical degree from New York University. “I was always in a hurry to get it done,” he said.

I had [ ]. The phone receptionist was "in-training". When she was uncertain as to what to do, she acknowledged it, put me on hold while she consulted a supervisor. The hold was not long, and when she returned she directed me to Dr Charles for specific care. I always feel more confident when a staff member acknowledges a gap in information, then corrects it. Via teleconference, Dr Charles took my history, was patient while I gathered my home BP and home oximetry, discussed his diagnosis and treatment plan and sent in an [ ]. It was late in the afternoon on a Friday and I was worried that I could not get the Rx till Monday. With my uncertainty and worry, Dr Charles gave me his personal cell no. to call if I had problems. It turned out that the pharmacy came thru and I did get the medicine that evening. Though I did not need to call him back I really appreciated his genuine concern and his giving me personal access.

Dr Charles is a highly skilled professonal knowing his boundaries as to when to help me himself od to delgate to a specialist. He is retiring to part time work, I will miss his care and candor about my health. He advised me in a crisis point ( which I did not recognize ). When I went to ER , i knew why. He suspected my symptoms and by his advice ,I went and recieved the care I needed form a mild heart attack. I am grateful for my life and due to his warning , I made to ER in time.

Dr. Charles' upcoming retirement is well-deserved and wonderful for him but it will be a sad day for all of his many devoted patients. We have come to actually look forward to seeing "the doctor" whenever we had an appointment. He is such a nice, welcoming and calming presence--and this is especially important when we're talking about our own health. His nurses love him, the front desk receptionists love him, and those I know who also claim him as their own personal doctor love him, too. What a treasure.
