Practicing colon and rectal surgery requires a serious nature, a quality Dr. Scott Nelson is unafraid to claim. Yet patients often find Dr. Nelson’s caring and quiet sense of humor an added comfort when facing challenging conditions. Dr. Nelson believes that success for his patients depends on both clinical excellence and a quality relationship with his patients.
Dr. Nelson is Southern Oregon’s only colon and rectal surgeon, and his expertise covers every type of illness in these systems. These include rectal prolapse, fistulas, colon and rectal cancers, fissures and other procedures. Regardless of the presenting illness, Dr. Nelson sees each patient is an individual. “Everyone has a story. I like to get to know people and learn who they are.”
With a family of seven children, Dr. Nelson has learned a bit about adapting to different individual needs and styles. And, having acquired his training from an honored team of surgeons before him, Dr. Nelson focuses on clarity, carefully considered action and compassion when meeting with patients.
Dr. Nelson works to maintain the highest level of surgical skill, a discipline he credits to his lifelong pastime of running 15 miles a week. Dr. Nelson is also active in his community, whether it’s participating in church-sponsored service with his wife and children, or working with the Josephine County Food Bank.
As one of the first doctors to become part of Asante Physician Partners, Dr. Nelson and his colleagues practice cooperative, team-based patient care.
