Francis Cheney Family Place
Life Changing. Life Altering. Life Saving.

In 1994, when the Francis Cheney Family Place first opened, everyone knew that it would be an important community resource, providing affordable and conveniently located lodging for Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center patients and their families. What we had no way of predicting was the profound impact it would have on the lives of those who pass through its doors.

There are myriad reasons why people stay at Cheney Place. Some are with us for just one night before an early appointment. Others stay for several days or weeks as they hold a vigil for loved ones in the Intensive Care Unit, Critical Care Unit, or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). And still others, who are patients themselves, stay on and off for months as they undergo an extended course of cancer treatment.

Much more than a collection of rooms and amenities, Cheney Place is a house of love, community, fellowship, friendship, and support. Guests are surprised by how quickly the staff and the other guests, strangers at first, become like family.

First-time guests do not expect the level of support they receive from the staff and even from fellow guests. The family atmosphere is a living culture that we actively cultivate and that guests heartily perpetuate. The depth of the connections that develop is amazing.

What occurs to our grateful guests is that Cheney Place is here for them when they need it most. They are grateful to have access to this extraordinary healing space. In the midst of what can be very dark days, Cheney Place lightens their load.

No One Is Turned Away

  • Cheney Place hosts more than 800 families per year (1,200 individuals) and typically runs at 80 to 90 percent capacity.
  • NICU families use Cheney Place more than twice as much as other guests and represent the highest percentage of those unable to pay.
  • Cheney Place serves nine counties, and there are no hotels within walking distance of the hospital.
