Patient support persons

support person

Oregon law requires all hospitals licensed in Oregon to allow patients with disabilities the option to designate support persons to help facilitate patient communication with hospital staff regarding their health care decisions and treatment discussions, as well as to assist with their needs while in the hospital. Qualifying patients can designate at least three support persons to assist them.

The Asante policy about patient support persons, which can be viewed below, provides additional detail about the role of support persons and the rights and restrictions related to a support person who is present at an Asante hospital to assist a disabled patient.
