Asante prescribes to the sanctuary model for treatment, which uses a trauma-informed approach to develop relationships between patients and caregivers. It focuses on providing healing environments in which patients can overcome the root causes of their issues.
Inpatient services
The inpatient Behavioral Health Unit is a 24-bed secured environment that provides treatment to individuals in an acute/critical phase of mental or emotional disturbance. The unit is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition to these 24 beds, there are two seclusion beds for intermittent and restricted use and a secure outdoor area. Our providers and staff use a multidisciplinary approach to treatment including medication management, group therapy and more.
Purpose
- To provide safe, competent and effective patient care addressing each patient’s physical, developmental, psychosocial and spiritual needs from a trauma-informed perspective
- To provide the highest level of care using a collaborative interdisciplinary approach.
- To perform required diagnostics, monitoring and therapeutic procedures in the most noninvasive way possible.
BHU team
Our team is comprised of a variety of clinical staff and non-clinical staff.
- Therapy team: Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and Recreational Therapists.
- Psychiatric team: Physicians and Physician Associates.
- Nursing staff: RNs, LPNs and CNAs.
- Social work team: Discharge planners, substance use navigators and intake coordinators.
- Security: A security officer is present on the unit to ensure safety of all.
Patients served
The BHU serves adults ages 18 years and over and focuses on short term intensive treatment, with an average length of stay of nine days. Patients served include those meeting criteria for a DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) diagnosis such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, etc.
Therapeutic daily programing
Groups are offered throughout the day to engage patients with emotional regulation, interpersonal functioning, life skills, medication management and resource building.
Patients will have the opportunity to receive individualized care sessions with psychiatry, therapy, occupational therapy and nursing.
Recreational activities include music groups, yoga, pet therapy and outdoor patio time.
Admission to the Behavioral Health Unit
- Psychiatrists who are employed to provide patient care in the BHU may admit patients.
- Patients may be admitted in any of the following ways:
- Emergency Department admissions.
- Interdepartmental transfers.
- Transfers from other medical facilities.
- Physicians/providers meet with all patients within 24 hours of admission and daily thereafter. The charge nurse or assigned patient care nurse notifies the attending physician of the patient’s arrival on the unit and their status.
Outpatient services
The Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic operates on a referral-based model for medication management. Our health care providers serve individuals of all ages and backgrounds who are navigating mental health challenges. Our medical providers and staff members show respect and kindness to patients. Our clinic offers a private, relaxing atmosphere where patients can feel comfortable and safe.
